INTRODUCTION — WHAT ARE YOU, REALLY?

In Part 1, we questioned the idea of separation.

Now we go deeper.

A teaching emerges—especially in
The Song of God—that challenges identity itself:

The self you believe yourself to be may not be the source—
but a result.

This is known as the epiphenomenon of the soul.

WHAT IS AN EPIPHENOMENON?

An epiphenomenon is:

Something that appears as a result of a deeper process,
but is not the cause itself.

Example:

• A shadow is an epiphenomenon of an object

• A reflection is an epiphenomenon of light

In the same way:

The personality-self may be an epiphenomenon of the soul.

THE SOUL AS PRIMARY

If the self is not primary, then what is?

The teachings point to:

• The soul

• Consciousness

• The indwelling Divine presence

From
The Urantia Book,
we learn that the soul evolves through experience and aligns with the Thought Adjuster.

Initiation in the Aeon of the Child,
we learn that beneath the constructed self lies the True Self.

THE SHIFT IN IDENTITY

This teaching creates a profound shift:

Instead of saying:

“I am this person”

One begins to see:

“This person is something arising within a deeper awareness”

This is not denial of existence—
it is a reordering of truth.

WHY THIS IS DIFFICULT

The mind resists this idea.

Why?

Because the ego depends on being central.

If the self is not the source:

• Control feels threatened

• Identity feels unstable

• Fear can arise

This is why many stop at intellectual understanding.

DIRECT OBSERVATION

This truth is not meant to be believed blindly.

It can be observed.

Sit quietly and notice:

• Thoughts appear

• Emotions rise and fall

• Sensations come and go

Ask:

Who is aware of these?

That awareness does not come and go.

It is constant.

THE THREE SYSTEMS ALIGN

Song of God

The self is not the origin—
it is an expression of a deeper divine process.

Urantia Book

The soul grows in partnership with the Divine presence within.

The personality is temporary—but the soul is enduring.

Aeon of the Child

The false self must be dissolved to reveal the True Self.

THE BREAKTHROUGH

When this is truly seen—not just thought about—something shifts.

The center of identity moves:

• From the surface

• To the depth

You are no longer:

• The thought

• The emotion

• The role

You are the awareness in which these occur.

WHAT THIS DOES NOT MEAN

This teaching is often misunderstood.

It does NOT mean:

• You do not exist

• Life is meaningless

• You should reject the world

Instead, it means:

You are more than the surface identity.

THE DEEPER TRUTH

The epiphenomenon of the soul points to something profound:

The individual self is not the creator—
but the expression of creation itself.

And that creation is rooted in the Divine.

In Part 2, we question identity itself.

Together, they lead to a new understanding:

You are not separate.
And you are not merely what you appear to be.

Something deeper is present.
