I am not against seniors using canes/walking sticks just be sure your well trained and know how to use it it wouldn't hurt to have a back up pepper gun/ or pepper spray for non lethal weapons. If you carry a firearm then you should carry it with a cane/walking stick. How ever you chose to do it.
